1986 Flood in the News
During the project, Michigan media joined together to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Great 1986 Flood. The project appeared in these news sources to feature our local presentations, collections of historical materials and oral histories from the public, and the launching of the website.
MLive published two articles in remembrance of the anniversary, and to celebrate our project. The first article introduces the project, and the second article announces the launch of the website. Both detail the history of the flood.
In the Midland Daily News, this article mentions a special, local presentation and History Harvest that was held in Midland.
During their morning show, Charlie Rood and Dave Maurer of WSGW News Radio talk about the events of the flood. They also announce a special local presentation and History Harvest that was held that evening at the Historical Museum of Bay County. Listen to that segment here.
Mr Great Lakes, an online Environmental Blog, also discussed the launch of the project. His article features an interview with Katy Hintzen, Sea Grant Extension Educator, about what the project is all about. You can find that article, as well as the recorded interview, here.
